Andrew Houseley is promising to keep members informed and encourage thought and debate on the key issues that will determine all our futures. These issues stretch beyond the confines of national borders and include:

Economic prosperity

social wellbeing and cohesion

crime

terrorism

sustainability and climate change

energy policy

Andrew believes the full range of issues are best tackled in the elections for the European Parliament, and not through a referendum on a single aspect of EU membership. The electorate will need to be persuaded of this argument. And Andrew is open to differences of opinion from members on this subject!

Members will be aware that the selection process closes in November.

All e-mail updates and digests from Andrew's site allow the ability to opt out at any time, and are fully compliant with the party's rules on contact with members during the selection process.

The system on this website also allows the opportunity to develop the debate in an e-mail forum, and Andrew is committed to exploring that option too.

Andrew knows that we have a real chance of electing not one but two Liberal Democrat MEPs for the East of England in 2009. An active debate among members during the next 2-3 months will help shape policy and determine election strategy - Andrew wants to take such a mandate from the Region's 4,000+ members to the campaign committee when it is formed.
